Management of Open Globe Injuries

Abstract

A 53-year-old man presented with 3-week delay of a self-sealed Zone 1 open globe injury with a retained intraocular foreign body of the right eye. The patient underwent intraocular foreign body removal via pars plana vitrectomy. The post-operative follow up was complicated with recurrent retinal detachment from the original strike site. The detachment was repaired with repeat pars plana vitrectomy, scleral buckling, and silicone oil insertion. Patient remains aphakic and attached.
