A polynomial equation in one variable x is an equation of the form a0 X n+a1xn−1 +a2xn−2 +· · ·+an−1x+an = 0, where a0, a1, a2, . . ., an are real numbers with a0 ≠ 0. The degree of this equation is said to be n. An equation of degree 1, or a linear equation, always has a unique real root.
