Abstract

The electron transport chain is linked with oxidative phosphorylation to produce ATP effectively. Some electron transport inhibitors have been obtained from fungi and are being used as anti-infectives in human and animal health and in agriculture. The inhibitors are also very useful tools in helping to elucidate the mechanisms of the electron transport chain. NADH-fumarate reductase is a part of the anaerobic electron transport system found in many helminth parasites. Nafuredin, verticipyrone, and some other new compounds have been isolated from fungal culture broths as NADH-fumarate reductase inhibitors, and some of them and their derivatives show promising anthelmintic activity.
