Abstracts
Cities around the world are engaged in efforts to adapt to climate change and improve resilience through uncertainty planning and precautionary action. Water-related concerns include sea level rise, storm surges, effects of flooding on infrastructure, and the availability of water resources. Cities have emerged as the global focus for climate adaptation efforts because they have been able to capitalize on strategic leadership and tap into problems that local residents deem important to them and their lives. In addition, cities provide a layer of governance that coordinates planning and decision-making. Water’s links to energy, land, and food resources mean that water shocks will appear in a variety of forms. Benefits to the water sector have spillover effects on energy security.
