Abstract
Guttate leukoderma refers to raindrop-like hypo- or depigmentation. It could result from a wide range of etiologies. A careful history and examination often provide the clues to the diagnosis.
The age of the patient is also important for the diagnosis. Some of the hereditary causes tend to manifest in the childhood. However, some acquired causes such as pityriasis alba, achromic verruca plana, and pityriasis lichenoides chronica also occur predominantly in children. On the contrary, conditions like idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis preferentially affect the elderly.
This chapter mainly focuses on the commonest cause of guttate leukoderma, idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis (IGH). In addition, we discuss the clinical features and some important aspects of other causes for guttate leukoderma.
