Abstract
Over the last few years, the rate of adoption of cloud computing and specifically managed cloud hosting and migration has accelerated significantly. Consequently, many enterprises/clients choose to migrate their local IT workload to cloud platforms. Such a migration consists in considering a cloud offering and come up with a cloud solution. In industrial settings, cloud designer may spend one day or so to come up with an acceptable cloud solution with a reduced cost/price. It is obvious that such a process is error prone, is time consuming and does not guarantee an optimal solution, e.g. a solution with a minimum cost/price. In this paper, we propose an approach and an optimization approach for cloud solution design that satisfy client requirements and cloud offering constraints and producing a solution, if there is any, with a minimum cost in a reasonable time. In addition, we present the implementation of our optimization method as well as two baseline methods and compare the results of applying all three methods on realistic data.
