Abstract
China’s downturn has hit Africa harder than other global partners. China’s demand for African commodities and raw materials has declined, exposing Africa’s dependence on China. Diversification and industrialization is back on Africa’s economic policy agenda. China has taken the decision to support Africa’s industrialization while it strengthens its industrial capacity in many African countries. One goal of China’s ambitious, the New Silk Road initiative, is to link the world through trade and investments, and Africa is becoming one of its destinations. China in Africa means not only trade and investments but also a growing military presence. China’s influence on the African continent is increasing through the recent maritime activities to obtain access to bases and ports to control the sea.
