The Glasses (1923)
Once upon a time there was a large rich country where law and order were the rule. Even though the people were divided into rich and poor, and even though the rich exploited the poor, there was never a word of complaint to be heard, much less gripes and threats. The king sat on his throne, fat, flabby, and content. The wealthy citizens were fat, flabby, and content in their beautiful homes. And the poor people worked diligently twelve hours a day in the fields and factories, and if they did not get enough to eat or did not earn enough, they appeared not to notice it.
