Abstract
This chapter presents the outcomes of the study, as well as suggestions for their application in similar school settings. The implementation of the cultural competency training program presented here was accomplished through a meeting between Mohawk educators and the district administration, and has wide-ranging implications for broader application. In addition to the options for professional development presented by the model of cultural competency, the project brought forth more immediate change, for example, alerting the administration to the need for professional development in Mohawk cultural competency, raising awareness of intercultural relations in a heterogeneous school setting, and foregrounding the lack of opportunities in place for non-Native teachers to expand their knowledge base.
