Abstract
Primary wound healing is critical for the success of any total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Wound healing problems following TKA are infrequent but can be a harbinger of devastating results. Delays in wound healing risk infection and implant failure and can ultimately result in amputation. Wound problems are minimized by proper selection of skin incisions, understanding cutaneous blood supply and patient risk factors, and using operative techniques that protect the soft tissues. When wound complications do arise, prompt management is imperative.
