Abstract
The authors focus in on the China-Latin America-Caribbean axis of world trade in this chapter. An international relations “infrastructure” underpins the spectrum of its effects, which the Chinese created with Hu Jintao’s Four No's Policy in 2004: no hegemony, no power politics, no arm races, no military alliances; and Xi Jinping’s 1+3+6 framework of 2014: 1 plan, the 3 axes of trade, finance, and investment in the 6 areas of engagement, energy and resources, infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, scientific-technological innovation, and information technology. The authors meticulously document the history of China’s contemporary relations with Latin American and Caribbean states, and the dimensions of its trade, investment, and lending with graphic illustrations. A special section profiles China and the LAC countries with which it maintains diplomatic relations.
