Conventional assertions of biology have been qualitative, not quantitative. There is not yet a periodic table to codify protein behavior. Here, we explore quantitative aspects of protein biophysics in what at first seems to be fuzzy territory. Most drugs are small molecules that interact with proteins to interfere with the deleterious behavior of mutant proteins. We give examples of descriptions of protein–drug interactions in the literature that appear murky and confused but become clarified by our more complete analysis.
