Perianal Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a rare, debilitating, chronic inflammatory disease that manifests with painful lesions, sinuses, and fistulae. The axilla, groin, and perineal regions are most frequently affected. There may be overlap and/or diagnostic confusion with Crohn’s disease in the perianal region. A variety of strategies for medical management, including anti-TNF-α agents, may ameliorate the disease course. Surgery is considered the most definitive and effective treatment and may require reconstruction in areas of difficult anatomy such as the perineal region.
