Abstract

Significantly, younger men and their ED management figured heavily in this section, as did the taboo nature of ED. Very often the subject was not even broached in some areas of the medical community (Table 49.1). This is important as very often patients want treatment for their ED, however, due to the taboo nature of the subject, they are limited from getting that, either as they are too embarrassed to seek help, or healthcare professionals feel the same way and do not ask.
  • ‘Patients who are at different stages have different requirements for ED. This is impacted on by the extent of surgery.’—ID5

  • ‘Ethnic minorities need to have ED addressed too.’—ID2

Patient quotes using Patient Identification Numbers

Age and gender ED Issues

Side effects of therapy

‘There are age and gender related ED issues.’—ID4

‘I still haven’t recovered full function.’—ID5

Lack of psychosexual care

‘My cancer was aggressive and nerves were removed. There is a lack of care for ED—The recovery may be time related.’—ID3

Lack of psychosexual care

ED needs to be taken seriously.’—ID4

There are not only age and gender issues related to ED but also problems relating to psychosexual care in ethnic minorities. This is clearly an issue which would be resolved with a pathway.
