Abstract

Various malignancies are prone to vascular invasion, and operative management of these malignancies often requires venous reconstruction. Specifically, renal cell carcinoma, pancreatic adenocarcinoma, sarcomas, leiomyosarcomas, and colorectal cancer, among others, may present with involvement of the inferior vena cava, superior mesenteric vein, portal vein, iliac veins, or femoral veins. Those malignancies involving venous structures may be amenable to surgical excision with resection and reconstruction of the involved venous structures. This chapter outlines the presentation, evaluation, and operative strategies involved with venous reconstruction in surgical oncology.
