Abstract
A critical evaluation is undertaken of how and why the EU’s institutions are often said to fail to communicate to national politicians and more crucially still, the national press. The main thrust of the book seeks to demonstrate how our understanding of Europe is discursively constructed in national newspapers (in print and online). Yet it should not be ignored that the EU also often fails to communicate to the press effectively, making it more likely still the media will fall back on national interpretations of what is happening.
