Abstract
The water seeping from the reservoir underneath the dam and through the abutments produces uplift, causes seepage losses and may initiate erosion. These components are of prime importance for the safety and the economy of the dam. The detrimental effect of seepage and erosion increases with the permeability of the foundation.
