Abstract
The European Union stumbles from crisis to crisis. It is in need of a fundamental overhaul, while the geostrategic context is changing rapidly. Sixty year ago, the Treaty of Rome promised peace among European nations, freedom from Soviet domination and prosperity for citizens. While the promise was kept, it has become doubtful that it can be sustained.
