Abstract
Progressive bone loss around dental implants is an apparent finding in clinical practice, which renders the diagnosis of peri-implantitis when combined with bleeding and suppuration upon probing. The management of peri-implantitis focuses on the elimination of the inflammatory state and the arrest of bone loss around the implant fixtures. Multiple treatment options have been reported in the literature, the success of which mainly depends on the degree of implant surface disinfection, the elimination of plaque retentive factors, and the establishment of access for adequate oral hygiene.
