Abstract
-
Presentation of the galea and its nerves and vessels as well as of the outer and inner surface of the skull with vessels and dural cerebral veins.
-
Illustration of the skull and brain with highlighted motor cortex.
-
Cingular structures are presented in detail, since thorough knowledge of these structures is important to avoid psychological deficits after surgery.
-
Presentation of the anatomical relationships of the anterior communicating artery to limbic structures (e.g., gyrus rectus) which are in danger during surgery. To emphasize this relationship, a detailed presentation of the respective anatomy is required especially highlighting the common anatomical variants of the anterior part of the circle of Willis.
-
The frontal base of the skull can be accessed either by a lateral approach starting intradurally to reach both intra- and extradural structures or by a transnasal approach where both extradural and intradural structures can be reached.
