Superintendent of Public Waters

Part of the Springer Biographies book series (SPRINGERBIOGS)

For Cassini, 1656 was a very successful year. He was already known throughout Europe for his comet observation, and now, after publishing the results of his observations at the meridian line, he became even more famous because of his “big astronomical machine”. In the same year the mandate for the astronomy professorship at Archiginnasio expired, but the Council renewed his chair for another three years, with a substantial salary increase, which thus reached the amount of “1200 lire”.
