Abstract
Leafing through the first volume of the “Journal des observations faites à l’Observatoir royal de Paris” [Journal of observations from the royal observatory of Paris] one can find, just at the beginning, the previously cited Latin note of Cassini. They describe the settlement of the scientist at the Royal Observatory, and the translation reads: “In the year 1671, 14 September, with the help of God I came in the Royal Observatory, where some rooms were being prepared for me, which I found full of workmen intent on mounting doors and windows.”
Anno 1671, die 14 septembris,
Deo auspice, in regium observatorium veni,
ubi mihi parabantur cubicula,
qui plena erant fabris portas fenestrasque munientibus
