Conservation of Tropical Rainforests

Abstract

The author begins with a review on the size of the global economy, the current size of conservation finance (including the size of the private sector), and discusses the gap between what is currently contributed to conservation finance and what is needed to address tropical rainforest deforestation and degradation. The author then briefly defines some key financial terms such as debt and equity, currency exchange rates, and cash flows. The author then concludes with a discussion of the frameworks to be later applied to the case studies. These financial frameworks include the Global Association of Risk Professionals’ Framework for Financial Risk Management and the Risk, Return, Time (Horizon), Taxes, Liquidity, Legal and Unique (RRTTLLU) framework for Portfolio Management.
