• Evert R. de Boer

Based on the review in the preceding chapters, De Boer concludes that the frequent flyer program (FFP) remains relevant now and in the future, as it is an effective competitive tool, which demonstrates an ability to innovate over time, and form cross-boundary partnerships. De Boer establishes that, although FFPs are intrinsically linked to the airline industry, they offer very different business dynamics compared to airlines. De Boer identifies the questions that remain unanswered, including the issue of the optimal structure, certain FFP design elements such as value-based accrual, and the impact of new technologies like blockchain. De Boer demonstrates that FFPs are well positioned to play an increasingly important role for airlines, but also highlights that FFPs will be held to rising standards by all stakeholders.
