Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment

Part of the book series: Practical Issues in Geriatrics ((PIG))

Abstract

The comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) as cornerstone of the geriatric medical specialty evaluates the main spheres of the aged person with or at risk of disability, i.e., physical, psychosocial, and functional domains. Not only does CGA disclose unsuspected, very mild, and mild cognitive impairment in patients referred for otherwise noncognitive symptoms, it also helps improve the clinical therapeutic decision-making in already demented patients. This chapter will focus on the implications and potential of CGA use in both conditions.
