Safety in Epilepsy

  • Thalia Valeta

Keeping safe is important for everyone, whether or not they have epilepsy. Assessing the risks associated with the type and frequency of the seizures experienced and then implementing the necessary safety procedures are important steps in assuring personal safety and well-being. Safety recommendations are often common sense. Anything that affects a persown’s conscious state, awareness or judgement can increase the risk of accidents. An Epilepsy Management/Action Plan is a risk management tool that lets anyone, who has a person with epilepsy in their care, know what to do and what not to do when that person has a seizure.
