Abstract
The first step in a research project is a thorough review of the literature related to your project. Here the purpose is to understand the state of the science and continue scientific inquiry based on that understanding. Worksheet A offers a structured format for recording relevant information (based on the PIO MM) from published articles. The result of Worksheet A is a “literature matrix” around the intervention effectiveness, quality improvement, or program evaluation problem of interest. After completing Worksheet A, the reader will have a ready resource for completing Worksheets B–F—information that will underlie and support all aspects of the study.
