Man with Downhill Post-CVA Course Complicated by Loss of Wife’s Support Due to Her Own Illness

Abstract

This was a case of a 68 year old man, acutely post cerebral vascular accident (CVA). Additional illnesses included cardiac dysfunction, (diabetes mellitus (DM), macular degeneration, anemia from gastrointestinal bleeding, and depression. The patient’s already complex medical care was seriously impaired from complications of a stroke and further impacted by loss of his spouse's assistance due to her diagnosis of a brain tumor. This case illustrates how Dr. Etemad efficiently used a home health nurse and closely tracked patient's health to manage this situation.
