Abstract
In the previous chapters the limit theorems have been applied to determine failure loads for a purely cohesive material (\(\phi =0\)). For materials with internal friction there is a fundamental difficulty, namely that the basic theorems of the theory of plasticity (the upper and lower bound theorems) are not valid, see Appendix C. This difficulty will be illustrated in this chapter.
