Abstract
Osteoporosis is the most common cause of vertebral compression fracture. Pain from a compression fracture is multifaceted, incompletely understood, and debilitating. If conservative management fails, then injection therapies are offered. Vertebral augmentation therapy is the most immediate way to treat pain from a vertebral compression fracture. The exact mechanism of pain relief from this therapy is not completely understood. This intervention is not risk-free. Quite often pain persists or recurs soon after this treatment. The chapter reviews different etiologies that can cause persistent pain after the augmentation therapy; an algorithm to work up the patient in a step-by-step fashion is proposed, and treatment options are provided.
