Abstract

Speciation of nanogold in geological objects is still poorly understood. The existing scattered data testify to their exceptional diversity. The gold nanoparticles included in the crystal lattice of the mineral–concentrators are especially widely distributed in nature. The latter are confined to certain types of ores and mineral-forming stages, different from the same minerals, not containing nanogold, based on the geochemical characteristics, the characteristics of the structure of the crystal lattice, etc. Since it is assumed that they are responsible for a significant portion of the gold reserves in the deposit, practical significance of the study of the nanogold speciation is difficult to overestimate. The study of such minerals is also of great theoretical importance for understanding the processes of nanogold formation. The other forms of the occurrence of gold nanoparticles are the presence on the surface of minerals as so-called new gold, the aggregates of complex structure, the intergrowths with other minerals, etc. Each of these forms connected with existence of certain mineral–concentrators of nanogold in the natural objects. This chapter is devoted to the known mineral–concentrators of the native gold nanoparticles, the patterns of distribution and their properties.
