Abstract
In considering the development of a criminology of poison homicide, it is necessary to be clear about the nature of criminology, how homicide is defined and classified, and the motives involved. Aims of the book include reviewing theories of crime and homicide in relation to poison murder, explaining the nature and variety of poisons used in homicidal cases, exploring characteristics of poisoners and their victims, discussing aspects of detecting poison homicide and how perpetrators seek to avoid detection, and looking at issues arising when poisoners are on trial. In scope, the book examines homicidal poisonings in the modern era and provides examples worldwide.
