Abstract
Florida, the largest swing state in the 2016 presidential election, also had a competitive U.S. Senate campaign, and more than the usual amount of intriguing U.S. House races. Ultimately, Donald Trump won Florida’s electoral votes and Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) held his Senate seat. The falling dominoes from politicians seeking new offices coupled with a court-ordered, mid-decade redistricting plan led to significant changes in Florida’s House delegation. Corrine Brown, a 22-year veteran, lost in the primary and Republicans John Mica and David Jolly lost in the general election. Two Democratic members ran for the Senate (and lost). Five members retired: four Republicans and freshman Gwen Graham. The result was that Florida sent ten new representatives as part of its 27-member delegation to the 115th Congress.
