Abstract
This introductory chapter begins with a personal reflection from the author about mixedness, as she sets the background for the study on which the book is based. The chapter then goes on to address important literature in the field of mixedness, as well as background and context for the study, terminology used in the book, and the study’s main research aims and objectives. This chapter also includes a section on methodology, where the three main research questions that drove the study are introduced. The methodology section continues with a discussion on the sample, the research site and the participants, as well as the interviews and observations conducted during the study. Important details regarding data collection are also discussed, such as access and ethics. Finally, the chapter concludes with challenges faced in the study, a brief roadmap of the following chapters, and concluding remarks.
