Abstract
After a brief review of properties of systems of partial differential equations, some key concepts and techniques are introduced in detail, i.e., characteristic manifold for first- and second-order systems, wavelike propagation, hyperbolic equation, Riemann kernel for a hyperbolic equation in two variables, Cauchy’s method for integration of a first-order equation, the bicharacteristics.
