Abstract

Jane was 8 months old when she was brought to the Emergency Department (ED) by her parents. She had been unwell overnight and that morning her mother noticed some spots on her chest and arms. Jane was seen by the triage nurse who immediately called over one of the department doctors to examine her. It looked like Jane had sepsis, an infection of her blood, and needed treatment immediately. The ED consultant was called as were the pediatric registrar and nurse.
