Abstract

Unlike the measurement of physical quantities that are essentially time-invariant, the aim of acoustical measurements is to get relevant information from a signal that changes over time and corresponds to an unrepeatable phenomenon. In the following sections, several parameters that describe the global behavior of sound, such as the equivalent level, the frequency weighted levels, the exceedance levels and the spectrum, are discussed. The stabilization time of all of them is also analyzed.
