Abstract
Children with PNES have difficulty identifying stressors other than the physical symptoms that they experience. Early in treatment, these often are the only stressors that they and/or their parents acknowledge. Management of the child’s physical symptoms builds the rapport and trust in the therapist that is needed to help the child and parents explore the child’s other stressors. Identification of stressors should be part of each therapy session using the techniques described in this chapter.
