Central America: The Logical Next Step
- 557 Downloads
In this chapter the economy of Central America is analyzed, on the premise that a regionally integrated Central American economy would be a logical next step for the expansion of the Pacific Alliance. The isthmus’ strategic geographical endowments and its centric position between North and South America and Europe and Asia make it a natural potential member for the Pacific Alliance. Its positive attributes notwithstanding, the Central American region has many obstacles to overcome to fulfill its true economic potential, such as its own abysmal failure to advance with regional economic integration and domestic political corruption that negatively impacts good governance and the business investment climate.
