Abstract

Intravenous administration of spherical gold-nanoparticles, which accumulate in tumors due to the leakiness of tumor vasculature, enhances the resolution of laser-based cancer detection system by increasing the contrast between surrounding normal tissue and tumors. The goal of this research is to demonstrate that gold nanoparticles tuned to the wavelength of the laser can enhance the sensitivity, resolution and precision of short-pulse laser-based cancer detection and therapeutic systems.
