Abstract

Since 1961, when Pitanguy presented a new technique of mastoplasty for the treatment of hypertrophic breast, many other procedures have been published that have improved the surgical result. Pitanguy ushered in a new era in this field owing to new concepts, giving special importance to surgical marking based on his point A, and each surgeon being able to create a new breast per personal creativity. He did not employ a prefabricated pattern, attributing much importance to the freedom of each surgeon to develop surgical planning and marking. No cutaneous undermining is done, not even any “dead space,” and a low incidence of complications. Because of the good results, Pitanguy’s technique became very popular, as it is quite easy to learn and perform the operation. His technique is a good indication in cases of asymmetric breast and in medial and severe hypertrophic breast.
