Abstract
This chapter introduces the essential aspects/indicators of environmental responsibility and comments on their importance and the collection of data. The major issues are use of materials (including chemicals), share of recycled materials, use of energy, material and energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity, use of water, carbon footprint, water footprint, waste management and transport. When elaborating the environmental impacts of products and services, Jouko Kuisma answers the typical question ‘should one be prepared to pay more if the product has been produced by minimizing its environmental impacts’. The exact information about the indicators and reporting instructions are found in the GRI Implementation Manual.
