Abstract
This chapter introduces the notion of implied role mining, where a researcher defines the set of roles that users of a system are expected to exhibit before extensive data or structural analysis commences. It is a more kind of qualitative, rather than quantitative, way to evaluate and extract the latent roles in a system. The chapter introduces the implied role mining process with examples from studies over Usenet. It concludes with an analysis of the implied role mining approach.
