Abstract
The purpose of work is to study the effect of process parameters on the performance of Shutter Type Vertical Axis wind Turbine (STVAWT). The STVAWT model for plain and curved shutter have been developed and tested for performance analysis. The parameters selected for analysis were wind speed and shutter angle. The experimentation has been carried out and mechanical power has been calculated. The analysis has been carried out using a Full Factorial design of experiments method. The shutter angle and wind speed have a significant effect on the performance of shutter type vertical axis wind turbine. The optimum shutter angle and wind speed is predicted for STVAWT within the tested ranges of parameters using ANOVA. The best performance of the STVAWT can be achieved at the predicted wind speed and shutter angle. This STVAWT can be viewed as an alternative option for standalone applications in rural area.
