Abstract

Late diagnosed and treated with closed reduction and prolonged plaster immobilisation in extreme abduction of newborns with CHD, was almost the rule in our country in earlier decades. As a result, the disordered anatomy of these hips made a future THR technically even more difficult. This situation significantly improved over time with the introduction of the use of ultrasound as a screening test and early application of a proper treatment. Consequently, in recent years, orthopaedic surgeons rather seldom come up against patients with severe hip deformities because of late treatment in infancy.
