In various religious traditions it is accepted that God reveals his sometimes quite specific messages to those he has chosen as his prophets or messengers. Such divine deliverances are deeply embedded in their respective religious traditions. They are also special, coming only to those who are chosen as prophets. The subject of this chapter is the prophetic epiphanies received by prophets in various religious traditions. The series of epiphanies in which the angel Gabriel delivers the Qur’an to Muhammad are considered, as well as the epiphanies of the prophets of the Tanakh or Old Testament, in which they receive the word of the Lord, and more recent prophetic experiences in other traditions.
