Abstract

There is an old amateur astronomy adage that states: The telescope that gets used the most is the telescope that sees the most. Meaning a smaller telescope that’s easy to move and set up gets used more often and therefore sees more of the sky than a large telescope that gets used only occasionally. This adage is in direct conflict with another old astronomy concept: Aperture Rules.

It is clear to everyone

that astronomy at all events compels the soul to

look upwards,

and draws it from the things of this

world to the other .
