    The Reactor Safety Study was sponsored by the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission to estimate the public risks that could be involved in potential accidents in commercial nuclear power plants of the type now in use. It was performed under the independent direction of professor Norman C. Rasmussen of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Rasmussen and Al. 1975; p. 1).

    The error factor is given by the ratio between the median and the 5th percentile of the distribution, which, in the lognormal case, also equal the ratio of the 95th percentile to the median.
