Abstract

This chapter outlines information required for implementing a telepsychiatry program as well as specific needs of a geriatric telepsychiatry setup. Readers will gain a technical overview and learn what type of support is essential for a successful telepsychiatry program. The importance of security and basic information about encryption, firewalls, and gatekeeping are presented. Internet options, interoperability of systems, vender, and equipment selection and setup are discussed. Additional resources for detailed technical requirements, platform options, and product information are provided.
