Manuscript Writing

Chapter

Abstract

Manuscript writing is a skill that many surgeons fear they do not have. This chapter provides practical information for the early stage researcher. It discusses the different types of manuscripts that can be written and considerations regarding journal choice and software that can facilitate the process of writing. A crucial skill in publishing a manuscript is to respond appropriately after receiving a decision from a journal—dealing successfully with corrections is discussed in this chapter. As with all skills, with some guidance and encouragement, surgeons can learn to write practice-changing manuscripts—some even begin to enjoy the process!
